Well people, obviously knowledge is the emphasis in our regular curriculum. So, what about imagination? Its up to us to build it and here's a chance for you.

EnC INFO’10, the annual technical festival of the Department of ECE, Pondicherry Engineering College.

This time, its bigger and better. Especially this being held in a silver jubilee campus in Puducherry, it only adds more to the enthusiasm. So, what are you waiting for?

Amaze - Treasure Hunt

Hoolaah Pirates! Are you good at solving puzzles? Are you the one who thinks out of the box? Then AMAZE is just the event for you! You are going to need your wits and guts to find the treasure. And who knows, you may actually learn something all along the way! So, put on your thinking cap, get your brain in gear, and set your train of thoughts in motion down the tracks!

RULES AND REGULATION:

Online registration for the event must be done on or before 12.02.2010
Only 6 teams will be selected for participation on first come first served basis.
College ID card is must.
4 members per tean strictly from same college.

EVENT FORMAT:

Each team is given a time duration of 30 minutes to crack the treasure.
There will be 4 checkpoints between starting point and the destination.
Each tean will be provided with a rough sketch of the landmarks in the campus.
One student volunteer will be alloted as a guide per each team.
Finally whoever finds the treasure first or whichever tean finds the maximum no. of clues at the end of the time duration will be declared as the winner.
Judge's decision will be final in case of any ambiguities.

This event is exclusively for the Quiz o’ Maniacs and a field of masti for the common people….. So Quizzers, stop quizzing elsewhere and rush to ENC INFO ’10 for the fun-filled Quiz gala...

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

It’s a team event – 2 heads per team.
The members of the team need not be from the same college
College ID card is must.
Registration is to be done online on or before 12th February.
Both technical and non-technical knowledge is required.

FORMAT

TECHNICAL Prelims will be conducted for 10 mins.
Six top teams from the prelims will be allowed for the Mains.
Mains consist of three rounds.
Elimination of 2 teams at the end of first round
Elimination of 1 team at the end of second round
In case of any discrepancies, decisions of the quiz masters are final and binding.

Circuit Designing

The whizzing and whirring of scientific brains!!.. Here's a platform for you to showcase your circuit designing skills. All you have to do is to innovate an electronic circuit for the given statement. If your inventiveness weighs above others, then you are the CHAMPION!!! What else? Let the rivulets of your creativity flow....

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

" Design an innovative circuit using the basic components like capacitors, resistors, diodes, transistors, logic gates which should undoubtedly be quite useful for common people. Outstanding design will be rewarded. "

NOTE: The cost of the circuit should not exceed Rs. 250.

RULES:

A team can consist maximum of 2 members. Inter college teams are allowed.
You must bring your college ID card on the day of symposium.
The design should be your own idea. It should not be taken from efy website or any other sources.
You must send soft copy of the design abstract and circuit diagram to our mail ID [ encinfo10@gmail.com ] on or before 16.02.2010
You will be intimated on or before 19.02.2010

Hot Pursuit

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Design an autonomous light seeker robot that can follow Intel which emits IR rays as it traverses. Intel is a manually controlled bot and it is controlled by the co-ordinators of the event. (A team may consist a maximum of four participants).

INTEL SPECIFICATION:

Intel is a manually controlled bot designed by the co-ordinators.
The Intel has its infra red sources placed at a height of 7cm from the ground and the sensors having a span of 15cm.
Intel will emit IR rays when it moves and does not emit rays when it stops.
Intel will be travelling at a maximum speed of 1.5 km/hr and the size of the bot will not exceed 20 X 20 X 20 cm.

AUTONOMOUS BOT SPECIFICATION:

The size of the autonomous bot should not exceed 20 X 20 X 20 cm in dimensions
There are no restrictions on the sensors that can be used but the maximum potential difference between any two points in the bot must not exceed 24V.
The autonomous bot should only follow Intel and not collide with it. Five such collisions may lead to disqualification.
Readymade kits such as lego kits are strictly prohibited.

ARENA SPECIFICATION:

Initially the autonomous bot will be placed in line with Intel at a distance of 7cm.
The path traversed by Intel is a predetermined one and will be the same for all participants. The path may also be a fenced one.
The path need not be a straight line and will not have right angle turns. It may have curved trajectories. The path may also have slight ups and downs.
The arena will have a number of check points for scoring.

SCORING:

A minimum of 75 points will be awarded for crossing checkpoints.
This may increase based on the path traversed between checkpoints.
There will be a deduction of 40 points for collision with Intel and five such collisions will lead to disqualification.
A second trial may be provided if required and this will be decided by the co ordinators at the time of the event.
Each bot will be allowed a maximum of three touches by the participant in a trial with a deduction of 50 points.
Bonus points will be given for the following:

75 points for the Indication of the working of sensors by LED
125 points for playing of alarm sound when it stops. ( ie when no IR is deducted)
100 points if no collision is made with Intel.

Points may also be awarded for the design of the autonomous bot.
The decision made by the co-ordinators are unquestionable.

RULES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION:

A team can have a maximum of 2 authors and the authors need not necessarily be from the same college.
The paper should be in IEEE format not exceeding 10 pages and abstract should not exceed 250 words.
Soft copy of the abstract and the paper should be mailed to encinfo10@gmail.com and three hard copies of it should be posted to the following address so as that it reaches us on or before 12.02.10.

Selected papers will be put up on the website and also will be intimated by e-mail on or before 17.02.2010.

RULES FOR MAIN EVENT:

The time limit for the presentation is 7 minutes (5 min for presentation & 2 min for queries).
The authors have to bring the presentation slides as a Microsoft PowerPoint file either in cd or pen drive.

Pondicherry Engineering College (or PEC) is one of India's premier engineering institutions situated in Puducherry.

Pondicherry Engineering College is an Institution sponsored by the Union Territory of Pondicherry.The College was started in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution for the purposes of administration, staff recruitment and College development and is managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, for the academic purposes. The College has been growing from strength to strength since its inception.

The College campus is situated at Pillaichavady which is about 12 km from the Railway station and bus-stand in Pondicherry town. It is about 160 km south of Chennai (Madras) on the shores of Bay of Bengal. The campus is also well connected by town buses from Pondicherry. Buses ply between Chennai (Madras) and Pondicherry frequently and the duration of journey is about 3 to 4 hours. The buses that come from Chennai via East Coast Road (ECR) stop near the campus itself. Commutation by auto-rickshaws from Pondicherry city would cost around Rs. 75.

The temperatures during the year vary between 25 degree C to 35 degree C, but it is always less harsher than other coastal cities making the place very pleasant and congenial for professional education. The campus is of great scenic beauty and forms an excellent setting for the pursuit of studies in engineering and technology.

The well planned departmental buildings, library, hostels, students' amenities centre, open air theatre, residential quarters for staff with neatly laid out roads, lawns and gardens constitute the PEC campus which is about 210 acres.

Event Format:

Being a Short film contest, the runtime of the films should not exceed 10 minutes.
Films in languages apart from English should be accompanied by Subtitles. Please ensure that the subtitles are visible throughout the film.
There will be a online selection round and the best short films among these would be screened on the day of the Symposium and it will be published on EnC info DVD.
You can upload your Short Films on a video sharing site like YouTube and send the link to the email ID [ encinfo10@gmail.com ] with the relevant details too on or before 16.02.2010
Shortlisted teams will be informed by 20.02.2010

Rules and Regulations:

Maximum of 3 members in a team.
Please avoid obscenity, pornography, excessive violence and anything generally considered objectionable.
